Queer as Folklore: Beard Weaver

its winter break!

the first semester of my thesis year has come and gone and now ive finally got time to update this here dust sequenced blog! its been an insane amount of stress but its good stress, ya know? the kind of stress that doesnt let you sleep or eat much but leaves you dry heaving sobs of happiness... i hope you enjoy what ive got to show, and if not: then go jerk off to the naked photos your friends and colleagues inevitably have on the internet and come back when your not so pissy, god!

in Queer as Folklore, i invent a series of modern day fables depicting the mythological origins of gay culture.

here is the first illustration i completed for my sassy, sassy thesis, i call it: Beard Weaver

Beard: A title given to an individual who partakes in a pseudo heterosexual relationship that disguises the sexual orientation of their partner.
i.e: Sally is John’s beard.

hideous herbert

is an edition of handmade/handcrafted books recounting the tragic tale of an ugly caterpillar desperately awaiting to become a butterfly.it is an edition of 20.
the pages are made of tiny envelopes...
each of which contains a chapter (in the shape of an even tinier envelope...)

and within each chapter you can find: a print of Herbert and an accessory!

the act of opening an envelop reveals it's narrative
"gargle... gargle..."
Without his many arms, Herbert slipped into a nearby
pond and was unable to paddle away.
Falling rainwater slowly filled his lungs and without a soul in sight
he died absolutely alone.
he was forgotten immediately and was completely unmissed by the world.
End.

"I'm sorry Herbert, but I can't help. I'm not real."

"I don't like this game Sammy. Just come help me."

"Even the smallest little boy is still much larger than the biggest worm."

"I'm not a worm! I'm a caterpillar and one day I'm going to be a beautiful butterfly!"

"No Herbert, you're not. Your body is the mutated byproduct of pollutants and your
mental stability has been compromised from a lifetime of living under a hallucinogenic
mushroom. You're never going to be a butterfly and you're not even a proper worm."
"But my entire life I've wanted to fly!"
"If you ask me: that bird was doing you a favor."

my god did feel good to slap some paint around, although my bum now has two perfect rosy circles from sitting on a hard wood floor for so long, but that's a painting for another day.

lookie! i made a nice little hideous herbert necklace!
got a few laying around but dono if they should come with the book or not. im probably over designing the hell out of his little summer project. but i guess its kinda nice, since you hardly ever get a chance to fully explore a project when your drowning in deadlines at school.
